# Why was I charged a different tax rate than my billing address?

Tax laws apply to where you receive your order, not your billing address. Novelship calculates taxes based on your shipping destination to comply with specific local regulations. Because rates vary between countries and regions, these may differ from your home province. Calculating the correct local tax upfront ensures a smooth, hassle-free delivery without unexpected customs delays.
